What are they, and what does the future look like?
GM. Happy Friday. OpenAI launched a search feature. Immutable gets probed by the SEC. Anthropic launches a desktop app for Claude. Today, weâre talking AI agents. What are they, and what does the future look like?
Without Further Ado. â *knuckle cracks* â Letâs get into it.

AI agents are software programs that can be trained to perform specific tasks for you. Different types include simple reflex agents, model-based agents, goal-based agents, utility-based agents, and learning agents.
Examples: an AI agent for airline customer support.
You can train the model based on common questions and answers to automate customer support and save your Customer Success team from unnecessary calls.
AI agents are the future â theyâre here to stay. But the term âAI agentsâ feels wonky and dated, even as theyâre just being popularized.
copilot is now a washed out term in ai & soon âagentâ will be too.

From a marketing POV, itâs clear we need a better name. Especially when Musk is predicted that by 2040, there will be at least 10 billion humanoid robots â essentially AI agents that look and act like humans.
JUST IN: Elon Musk says by 2040 there will be at least 10 billion humanoid robots, priced around $20,000â$25,000 each.

A better term would be distinguishing between human and computer-generated products and services. I think using the term computer doesnât oversell the capabilities of AI; it feels neutral, and itâs a term weâre familiar with.
So imagine instead of saying, âI built an AI agent for my airline's customer serviceâ, you said, âI built a computer.â
Elon Musk revealed a working prototype of humanoid robot which walked out to wave at the crowd. Tesla showed a video of it doing simple tasks; watering plants, carrying boxes and lifting metal bars at a production station at Teslaâs California plantđ¤

According to its definition, a computer is âan electronic device for storing and processing data, typically in binary form, according to instructions given to it in a variable program.â I think the definition still applies here.
And thereâs potentially a broader opportunity to bring back the term PC to describe your at-home general helper. Itâs my personal computer. Literally.
What do you think weâll be calling AI agents in 20 years? |
