🗿 AI Agents Won’t Last

What are they, and what does the future look like?

GM. Happy Friday. OpenAI launched a search feature. Immutable gets probed by the SEC. Anthropic launches a desktop app for Claude. Today, we’re talking AI agents. What are they, and what does the future look like?

Without Further Ado. ☕ *knuckle cracks* ☕ Let’s get into it.

AI Agents Won’t Last

AI agents are software programs that can be trained to perform specific tasks for you. Different types include simple reflex agents, model-based agents, goal-based agents, utility-based agents, and learning agents.

Examples: an AI agent for airline customer support.

You can train the model based on common questions and answers to automate customer support and save your Customer Success team from unnecessary calls.

AI agents are the future – they’re here to stay. But the term ‘AI agents’ feels wonky and dated, even as they’re just being popularized.

From a marketing POV, it’s clear we need a better name. Especially when Musk is predicted that by 2040, there will be at least 10 billion humanoid robots – essentially AI agents that look and act like humans.

A better term would be distinguishing between human and computer-generated products and services. I think using the term computer doesn’t oversell the capabilities of AI; it feels neutral, and it’s a term we’re familiar with.

So imagine instead of saying, “I built an AI agent for my airline's customer service”, you said, “I built a computer.”

According to its definition, a computer is “an electronic device for storing and processing data, typically in binary form, according to instructions given to it in a variable program.” I think the definition still applies here.

And there’s potentially a broader opportunity to bring back the term PC to describe your at-home general helper. It’s my personal computer. Literally.

What do you think we’ll be calling AI agents in 20 years?
