India Wants to Popularize its CBDC

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is working with lenders to roll out some new features for its CBDC, known as the “e-rupee”.

What you need to know:

• India wants more people using its digital currency

• Retail CBDC transactions avg ~ 18,000/day, far behind the RBI's target of one million by the end of the year

• The feature would allow users to convert their digital currency holdings into cash at bank branches

• With a “cash-out” feature, more people could use e-rupees for everyday purchases like groceries + bills

Today we have Jaap Haartsen - the father of Bluetooth

Jaap was an engineer at Swedish telecommunications company Ericsson —so “legally” they are credited with the invention. HOWEVER Jaap was the driving force.

His team laid the foundations for the system that would eventually become known as Bluetooth. Jaap also played a major role in the creation of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group, founded in 1998, and served as chairman for the SIG air protocol specifications group from 1998 till 2000. The latter was integral in the standardization of the Bluetooth radio interface.

Remember when we had headphones with cords? 🤮
