CC0 Tools, NFTs, and Moonbirds 🐥
Moonbirds threatened to revoke CC0 permissions for their holders. Let’s define CC0 + explain its significance for the NFT space.
If you like NFTs, you should probably know about the CC Zero (CC0) license. CC0 enables reusers to distribute, remix, adapt, and build upon the material in any medium or format with no conditions.
In other words, it allows holders to do whatever tf they want with their NFT. Moonbirds announced on Discord that their founder (Kevin Rose) is talking with lawyers about possibly reversing CC0.
Bro 😂😂😂
I’m dead 💀
You can’t reverse CC0 by definition that’s the whole point 😂😂😂
What even is this project
Like way to show you had no idea what CC0 meant when you made that choice

Here’s the problem… CC0 doesn’t work unless it’s irrevocable. Otherwise, people wouldn’t sue CC0 IP because there’s a possibility they could get sued in the future.

Technically, you could reverse CC0, but anyone who’s already started using that content will have continued rights to it.
The big picture: The CC0-Moonbirds debate opens up a broader conversation about IP rights in the digital age. We’ve already seen a backlash against AI companies from content creators – most notably, a major lawsuit between NYT and OpenAI/Microsoft.
In the case of NYT, they never offered CC0 privileges; NYT is well-protected against unpermitted repurposed content. It will be interesting to see how more content creators put up guardrails against copyright infringement as the barrier to entry for content creation becomes simplified on the backs of actual creators.

Hot take: Going out on New Year’s Eve is overrated
New Years Eve is the worst holiday imo
Going out is 10x more expensive
And everyone tries way too hard to have fun
Which causes people to stress about having fun
Then nobody has fun
Tell me I’m wrong
