Polish drinks company Dictador announced that it had anointed a robot named Mika as its "experimental CEO."
Every day we wake up with less faith in humanity. We’re just slowly living out the preamble to iRobot, and no one’s doing anything about it.
If you’re going to make a robot CEO, does it have to look so terrifying? This thing is obviously out for the soul of every human at that company. Also, the company is called “Dictador”...????????? They’re not even hiding the fact that they want this thing to take over the world.
The robot was developed by Hanson Robotics. Their CEO, David Hanson, who played a key role in employing Mika at Dictador, is apparently big on the importance of "humanizing" artificial intelligence… which is definitely what you would say when you are a villain who creates an evil robot that you think you can fix in an early 2000s cartoon.
“I feel very strongly that we need to teach A.I. to care about people for A.I. to be really safe, to be really, really good.”
Even if this was pitched as the start of a world-ending robot movie, it wouldn’t be interesting to the audience. There’s not even a twist. This is like the beginning of Jurassic Park but more obvious.
For those of you who’ve been following along, you might recognize the name Hanson Robotics. In 2016, Hanson Robotics unveiled Mika’s sister, Sophia, who once said she would "destroy humans."
