GM. We’re into real summer now. News is slower, content is weak, your least favorite influencers can’t stop posting from yachts in the mediterranean. Outside of crypto taking a little dive, life is good.

We know you’re probably not at your computer this morning so we’ll keep today’s edition shorter. But, we do want to arm you with some talking points you can bring up at the beach bar to sound like you’re more tapped in than everyone else who also just ordered their second aperol spritz before noon.

Without Further Ado. ☕ *knuckle cracks* ☕ Let’s get into it.

Scary (Cool?) AI Headline of the Week

“Artificial intelligence systems can now create remarkably accurate reconstructions of what someone is looking at based on recordings of their brain activity. These reconstructed images are greatly improved when the AI learns which parts of the brain to pay attention to.”

If you know as little about how the brain actually works as I do, then this is absolutely crazy. If this actually works, we’ll be able to hook ourselves up to machines that can recreate our dreams so we can rewatch them in the morning??

We are surpassing Sci-Fi movies at this point. Wild.

Don’t Feel Great About This AI Headline of the Week

“Thanks to partnerships with their estates, the voices of legendary stars of stage and screen Judy Garland, James Dean, Burt Reynolds, and Sir Laurence Olivier are now part of the library of voices on our Reader App.”

Ehhh. We have a couple problems with this. First and foremost, recreating the voices of people who’ve passed away just feels not great. They are working with the agency who works with the estates and blah blah blah. It just feels like something we, as a society, shouldn’t be doing.

Secondly, it once again waters down the actual work and use of their real voice. If you read last friday’s edition, you know how we feel about using AI to recreate famous voices.

LOL Headline of the Week

This is funny for a multitude of reasons, but for me personally it’s the fact that the police officer didn’t immediately recognize it as a Waymo. These are not new in the Phoenix area, Waymo has been there for over 2 years. He has definitely seen these driving around before with very obvious GIANT sensors attached to all parts of the car.

What we want to know – how often are they getting pulled over??
