Polygon Paid Draft Kings, That’s a Problem

Polygon paid Draft Kings millions of MATIC tokens to launch on its network.

The pay-to-play move was undisclosed by Polygon, but the transaction was found on that public database thingy called the blockchain by a CoinDesk reporter. It gets cringier.

From CoinDesk, when the tie-up was announced in early 2022, Polygon called it an "important adoption milestone" and “the first time a major publicly traded firm has taken an active role in blockchain governance."

yiiiikkesss

To make matters even worse, DraftKings was booted from the network last month after failing to maintain its validator’s performance. This is despite the fact that Polygon offered financial and technical support and preferred commission from delegators.

There is nothing wrong with paying your way to adoption. We get it, emerging tech is confusing, complicated, and messy. Sometimes you gotta force your way in to convince big corporates terrified of new tools and legal battles to throw a potentially unregistered security into their multi-billion dollar portfolio.

But there is a difference between paying for a partnership to manufacture use cases and hailing it as a “mass adoption” play.
